Welp, Inktober ended up being a massive FAIL for me this year - my October schedule ended up CRUSHING me to pieces. So here's to getting some of those picture ideas done this month, eh?

In the meanwhile, I'll be attending Youmacon at the start of November, presenting a handful of various panels. Some on gaming, some on Cosplay, and two on Sunday on Drawing. COME JOIN ME!

*returns to finishing up cosplay for the weekend*

THE TIME HAS COME. Remember that thing I was telling you that I couldn't tell you about? WELL I can tell you about it now! If you've seen my other social media sites, this posting will come as no surprise.

I wrote a book!

And not just any book, a book about cosplay!

Cosplay-Book-Cover-Web by Karmada

Preorders are currently on Amazon:
www.amazon.com/Epic-Cosplay-Co…

It's also set to come out officially in September - coming to a store shelf near you!

This book is designed with the beginner cosplayer in mind, but can be also helpful to more veteran cosplayers as well!

Topics Include:
  • What is Cosplay?
  • Breaking Down a Costume (how to make it into manageable parts)
  • Cosplay Supplies
  • Sewing Techniques/Toolbox (how to do stuff like add ruffles, turn corners, etc)
  • Many tutorials on various types of costume pieces (ranging from simple bowties to armor pieces & props)
  • Wig Tips & Care
  • Surviving a Convention in Cosplay (what can you do at conventions? What are they?)

I'm so happy I'm able to announce this to you all finally! I've been working away at it for the past year and a half - I not only wrote the entire thing (As much as they'd let me, in fact, I wrote so much we had a hard time making sure it'd all fit in the page requirements), I also created all the garments used in the sample photos, along with all the interior illustrations (which include both my marker work and all the how-to diagrams that I vectored up!). I've been a busy one-person-powerhouse of art here! :)

I love cosplay, and I know for a lot of people wanting to start it feels really scary or daunting. WELL, I'm here to show you it's not as scary as you think. All projects are designed for the reader to take the pieces and customize them to what they need for a costume - SO GET CREATIVE! Become a Hero (or Villain) today!

Greetings! It's been a while, but I've been busy working on some things, and it's been kind of crazy around here lately. I figured I'd at least update with a few things here:

Next Upcoming Conventions (May)
Next couple of conventions are Anime Park (may 7), and Anime Central (May 20-22), so I'm prepping for those. I'll be vending at AP, but I'll have a lot of my stuff marked down on sale as I'm re-calibrating the booth this year! While I may not sell these prints after they're gone, I still want them to go to good homes :) So if you're in the local area of Anime Park (canton mi) stop by for some good deals!

Big Project
I'm still in the process of that, and unfortunately can't tell y'all much about it. But don't worry! Once I've got clearance you'll know alllllll about it! (It's at least nearing the ending stages so yay!)

New Comic
I'm working out a new comic right now, and it seems to be headed well under way. It's gonna be a sci fi story, with humor, drama, etc (what else would you expect from me, right?). There's been a few sketches up here of characters that'll be in it, but once I have it up and ready to be posted you'll know!

That's all for me for now, unfortunately mostly just a "I have a bunch of stuff en route, I just can't show them now" kind of post, but you get those occasionally. :)

End-of-the-Year Update!

Fri Dec 18, 2015, 9:57 AM
So all my conventions have come and gone! There have been some pretty exciting times throughout this year. Learned how to make space armor, got a Best in Show at Youmacon for Card Captor Sakura (I'm working on getting pictures up here, but you'll understand in a moment!)

  • I've got some conventions I'm planning on visiting next year, and doing a lot of panels (I'm kind of revamping the Artist Alley booth, and in a way, taking a year off from it). I'll have the list for you once I've got all the travel plans ready to go!

  • I've been currently working on a pretty large freelance project, and thankfully that work is finally coming to a close! As soon as I can give you all information on it, don't worry! You'll know right away! :)

  • In the meanwhile, I've been musing on Space Comic (which I'm hoping to debut in February), and doodling here and there in between the rest of my work.

More news will be coming once I get more details for you all! Hopefully your holidays are going well. I'm looking forward to finally getting a chance to rest! :)

Start-of-the-Year Rush COMPLETE

Mon May 18, 2015, 9:32 AM
First off, WELCOME ALL NEW PEOPLES! You probably found this from my business cards, and hey, that's super cool! Enjoy the artworks, and I still post here from time to time, so don't worry - it's still active even if I'm not updating the journal as much. :P

Speaking of Journals...

As you can see, I haven't updated my journal since December, and honestly, that's because I was busy with at least one con a month, and sometimes two, usually really close to each other.

Things I've learned from this experience? LET'S NOT PUT THEM SO CLOSE TOGETHER, EH?

As for Conventions...

After being at a lot of shows I've done many years, I think I'm going to take a year off of a couple of the ones I usually vend at to actually attend them for once. CRAZY, I KNOW? Currently on the list are Youmacon 2015 (I plan on just wandering, maybe paneling, and doing masquerade), Shutocon 2016 (where I hope to do some paneling), and ACen 2016 (mostly because I haven't "attended" in over 5 years, and last time was kind of disasterous, so I'd like a better experience).

So what does this mean? Welp, it also means I'm getting a little more adventurous on my costumes, and they might be a little cumbersome to be behind a table, so I'm going to use the opportunity to FINALLY MAKE THEM.

But don't worry, I'm not dropping ALL of them. :) I still plan to vend at a few over the next year.

Big Project/Work

Another reason why I'm cutting down on some conventions, is that I've picked up a new Job-Like-Thing, and it's going to be eating a lot of my other time outside of the regular stuff. It's all supposed to wrap up around Decemberish, so hence why my fall/winter schedule has like NOTHING in it. I'll be a bit busy working on that.

For those of you waiting on Tangerine #3, this is why it's not out yet. On the bright side, it's story-boarded, and half the pages are blue-penciled in, I just need to get past my first due date on the Big Project, and then I'll have some extra time.

End of the Year Update!

Mon Dec 29, 2014, 8:24 AM
Welcome! This will [most likely] be my last update for 2014, but don't worry, I'll have more updates in January!

Kiriban Drawing

A while back I mentioned doing a kiriban and I'm VERY CLOSE! So if you're pageview number 70,000 TAKE A SCREENSHOT. Let me know! (You can always post it in a devart scraps journal and link me - probably the best way, or use a photobucket or something!). I'll do a little 5x7 drawing for you!

Injury

Sooooooooooooooooo I severely burnt my left hand the day after Christmas (we're pretty sure it was 2nd degree, ouch!). I'm grateful it's my left hand, don't get me wrong - But it's causing a snag in creating things like comics - because i use things like rulers and even the side buttons on the tablet are all left-hand items, so I don't know when I'll get my next chapters done. I'm really hoping to get back to work by the end of the week if I can get it healed up enough to function with grip. It's super frustrating! For further details, you can totally check out the Crash Bang Labs Blog because I posted the whole [really actually kind of hilarious] tale. Honestly, it was a dumb accident. Word to the wise: do not walk around with an open cup of boiling hot water.

Subscription Renewal

:iconlunaladyoflight: re-upped my yearly subscription for Christmas because she is a super darling! She is currently preparing for WCS preliminaries so let's wish her all the best luck!! You can check out her cosplay work there, or at the team facebook page: Karmaluna Cosplay

I have a couple of new ones to add to my list: ACEN and Tekko con! This means that I have managed a schedule that'll put me at one convention a month January - May! I think I'll take June to relax before I head to GenCon in July/August. :)

2014 Conventions Come to a Close!

Tue Nov 11, 2014, 1:28 PM
I've just recently returned from Nekocon in Virginia, and between recovering for that and getting prepped for the holidays, I can say that the Crash Bang Labs convention season has come to an end!

Welcome all new people, I am starting up into book creation mode, so it'll be a tad hectic between that and holiday etsy things, but I will do my best to not drop completely off the planet! I'm still really exhausted from my trip, and I'm resting my arm as best I can (poor thing gave up at Nekocon!).

I plan to be adding my new sketchcard prints to the etsy shop, as well as options to mat them! I've finally come across my mat cutter and got it to work properly! :D So now I can make lovely mats for all the little prints.

Meanwhile, I am preparing for next year's conventions, to which you can find listed here:

Fall Convention Schedule Updates!

Tue Oct 7, 2014, 2:04 PM
Whew! Having two conventions in a row really exhausts me (looking forward to that at the end of THIS month too, OY I'M BAD AT PLANNING). Anyway, I finished up the AMERICAN SEWING EXPO, as well as AWESOME CON INDY. So hello to anybody who may have stumbled across this page from my business cards and/or the internets! It's nice you stopped by!

So we're hittin' the home stretch, and here's previews of what's goin' on this winter:

YOUMACON (youmacon.com)

October 31-November 2, Detroit MI

Still in downtown Detroit at the COBO center, I'll be at Youmacon vending my prints, comics, and more! I've got a lot of sketch cards (and prints of them) available, and plan to have more before I arrive. Due to circumstances out of my control I won't have my Tangerine Wings #3 done just yet (It is entirely written/mapped out though - I just couldn't get it to the printer on time, but I'm sure I can work something out on the internet!)

However, I am collecting my sketches from the past 1.5ish years and am creating a SKETCHBOOK that will be available for purchase at the convention! It should be close to magazine sized, and will have something like 24 pages in it? Either way, it'll have a bunch of sketches, artwork and character designs for things like my comics and game characters. It's something I've been wanting to do, and I got inspired by people at Awesome Con who had really cool ones (of which I of COURSE picked up!)

I'm gonna have a new display set up, so look for a teal tablecloth (if I can find new fabric since my last one kinda got a giant blob of ink on it that's unforgiving!)

NEKOCON (www.nekocon.com)

November 7-9, Hampton Roads, VA

It's a new con on my list, and I'm trying it out! If you're in the area, come by and say hi at CRASH BANG LABS! :) I'll be bringing all my cards, comics, and prints with me!

OHAYOCON (ohayocon.org)

January 30 - Feb 1, Columbus, OH

Officially got signed up for my booth (aka sent in my booth fee), so here's hoping that it's a good show! I'll have more details on new items I'll have at my booth as the months progress!

after that, I've got Shuto Con, and pending are Katsucon and Anime Central (one I'm waiting to see if I got in, the other I'm waiting to open registration in December. :) )

BACK TO THE PAGE LAYOUTS WITH MEEEEEE! *flies off *

UPDATE:

Apparently I got into Katsucon 2015's Artist Alley! WOO! I'll have more information once I get that all settled and taken care of!

Convention Updates and the Like

Tue Sep 16, 2014, 11:36 AM
It was time for me to update the last journal, since some of those cons and events have passed! So here's the current update:

AMERICAN SEWING EXPO (americansewingexpo.com)

September 26-28, Novi, MI

I'm giving some classes about cosplay, but more importantly, there is something called a "Social Media Lounge" where you can come to visit with me (and from my understanding our other costume guests!), and ask questions about costuming! It's called ASK AN EXPERT, and it takes place for 2 hours each day of the show (1 hour on sunday): Fri 1-3, Sat 1-3, Sun 9:30-10:30. It's a FREE event at the show, so once you're in you can totally come and check it out!

ALSO - they are having a COSTUME CONTEST on Sunday, and dun dun dun.... I'M A JUDGE! So cosplayers! Come to our show (entry fee is pretty cheap - like 15 dollars at most maybe? and we've got a big dealer area full of SEWING VENDORS!), REPRESENT! Also, you get to walk on a catwalk kind of stage, so it'll be pretty awesome.

AWESOMECON (awesome-con.com/indianapolis)

October 3-5, Indianapolis IN

Just a quick reminder that me and my pal :iconrajamitsu: and I will be vending our artworks at the wonderful AWESOMECON convention happening in downtown Indianapolis at the giant Convention Center! We'll have sketch cards, prints, comics, sketchbooks and of course ON SITE COMMISSIONS available! I'll have more information where we'll be at in there if I'm able to get it in an early manner to let y'all know. Otherwise, come look for our booth! It's got the pictures you tend to see here in it. :P Check their website for details on guests and events!

YOUMACON (youmacon.com)

October 31-November 2, Detroit MI

Yep! It's almost that time, at the end of October, I'll be vending at Youmacon! I'll of course be bringing all my prints and comics, and barring any unusual events, I'll have NEW TANGERINE WINGS finally! I've begun mapping/thumbnailing out the next arc, and I'll say it'll be FUN. :)

NEKOCON (www.nekocon.com)

November 7-9, Hampton Roads, VA

It's a new con on my list, and I'm trying it out! If you're in the area, come by and say hi at CRASH BANG LABS! :) I'll be bringing all my cards, comics, and prints with me!

OHAYOCON (ohayocon.org)

Remember when I said I dropped in an application to Ohayocon to see if I could get in? WELL GUESS WHAT. I got placed on the ACCEPTED list! omg! I hear they've moved the alley since I've last been there (it was like 4 years ago), so if anybody's got some tips, tricks or advice for navigating the show, LET ME KNOW. At least I'll have something to keep me busy in January!

  • Listening to: The Radio
  • Reading: Shingeki no Kyojin
  • Watching: My Little Pony: FiM
  • Playing: Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  • Eating: I need food?
  • Drinking: Iced Coffee of some kind....
WHEW! I just got back from GenCon, which for those not in the know is one of the (if not THE) largest [tabletop] gaming convention in the world. This year they boasted over 56,000 unique attendees. But enough of my jabbering, you can check it out on my official Crash Bang Blog here: blog.crashbanglabs.com/2014/08…

Coming up next is visiting the DIstant Worlds concert in Chicago, which I'm very VERY excited about as they're doing a Final Fantasy VI tribute (which happens to be one of my most FAVORITE games of theirs ever).

OTHER ITEMS on my list!

MIDORI CON - SEPTEMBER 6

I'm just going to visit this one for a day, take some pictures, you know the drill. Mainly I wanted to scope it out before trying it next year, and since it's practically around the corner (if you count about 2 hours around the corner - but that's relatively close compared to other conventions). Dunno what I'm bringing yet, but I still have a couple of weeks to decide!

AMERICAN SEWING EXPO - SEPTEMBER 26-28

Did you know I liked to sew things like costumes? I happen to be involved in a whole bunch of things at the end of September regarding sewing! I'm presenting at a show called the AMERICAN SEWING EXPO (Find it here: americansewingexpo.com/). I'll be presenting a couple of introductory panels about cosplay (such as beginning to do cosplay as well as what IS cosplay) and a Found Item/Closet Cosplay panel! Other things I'll be involved in there: I'll have a "display" of several costumes from my closet for people to view - I'm still picking and choosing and JEEZ it's hard because I have sewn way too much D:

ALSO: they are having a COSTUME CONTEST on SUNDAY AUGUST 28th! This includes costumes of all types! They have a sign up form on their website under "contests", and word on the street is I'm going to be a JUDGE! :) There's also some sort of "talk to the costumers" thing but I'm still getting details (it's news to me!)

AWESOME CON INDY - OCTOBER 3-5

I've got a new convention to add to the list here! I'll be attending AWESOME CON INDY down in Indianapolis IN with my pal :iconrajamitsu:! We'll be sharing a table, and trying a new table set up so if you're at the show, come say hi to us! I should have all sorts of new goodies to sell at that time, if all goes well! AND commissions! We'll have commissions! LET US DRAW YOUR CHARACTERS!

SKYS END - ONGOING

So I'm in the process of returning from GenCon and getting new pages up, but I've got about 16 pages of Sky's completed, colored, and posted. Some pages I like better than others, but as they say - when doing webcomics you just have to KEEP POSTING or else you get caught in the constant redo of chapter 1. :) You can see it here: skys-end.com/

As you might notice, I don't have comments set up on the webcomic MOSTLY because I have comments on like 5 other sites that deal with my artwork/crash bang labs, and honestly I need to spend less of my time watching comment threads than making art. XD Not that I don't want to hear from my audience, I'm more just streamlining where they can reach me for ease of reading and sanity!

TANGERINE WINGS - IN PROGRESS!

Tangerine Wings (my comic about a magical angel boy, OH YES) is about to re-start production come September. I will be finishing chapter 3 so I will have a new smaller issue available at Youmacon this year!

OTHER MISCELLANY

So other things going on:

  • Our basement flooded slightly. We got lucky. We were in an area that never HAS floods then we had some massive storm come by RIGHT before GenCon and put 2 inches of water in our basement. Not as bad as others had it, but now we're forced to have to clean up the basement and we just don't have the time and ugh! At least everything is dry and I only lost a couple of patterns.

  • I dropped in an application to Ohayocon's Artist Alley. They apparently have new management, and while still having the no-fanart rule (I'm fine, that's their rules, so I'll play by their game), I figure "what's the worst they can say? NO?" I haven't been there in years, but since it's so closeish by I might as well try again

  • I will be working for a new convention coming up (well "reborn" convention), and I'll have more details on that later!

  • About to hit the one-year mark since I got married, I can't believe the time just FLEW BY. Are we doing anything special? Probably not. Will we be playing Video Games? MOST LIKELY. Are we okay with this? If we weren't we wouldn't have gotten married in the first place! XD

I've Been a Really Busy Bee!

Tue Jul 22, 2014, 7:39 AM
Long time, no post - but honestly, I've been pretttttyyyy darn busy! (and before you say anything, yes I play an online game, but ask my friends I'm on super sporadically :P)

1.) New convention to be added to the list!

Hey guys! I finally got my confirm back and I'll be attending NEKOCON (www.nekocon.com/) for the first time EVERRRRRRRR. According to my research it looks to be around 5,000 in attendance (I'm considering it to be "Shuto Con-Sized", which is a good number for me). Has any of my watchers here been to that show? It's down at Hampton Roads, VA and will be taking place the weekend after Youmacon. (OH man will I be tired, but it's WORTH IT)

2.) Comics!

I've been working on the webcomic again! This time it's colored in with markers, which takes me a bit of time, and will take me sometime to get in a full, real schedule, but I'm STILL POSTING. Also, trying to resist the urge to burn all the pages (honestly I hear that's common in webcomics and i must just BOLDLY STRIDE FORWARD)

3.) Sewing & Crafts

I'm making some small outfits for Gencon, along with some new products to be placed in the ETSY shop. I should hopefully have it finished by later today, or Wednesday at the latest! I really just need to take some good pics for it.

3.)Kiriban Drawing

So it's been a bazillion years since I did a kiriban, and it's about time, right? So if you're pageview number 70,000 TAKE A SCREENSHOT. Let me know! (You can always post it in a devart scraps journal and link me - probably the best way). I'll do a little 5x7 drawing for you!

Onto the Next Phase...

Thu Jun 5, 2014, 11:29 AM
Indy Pop Con was good! Made about evenish - but the crowd was fantastic, and I am hoping to vend there again next year. It looks like it could be a really awesome con, and I'd love to be there to help it grow. If any of my visitors here are from IndyPop, HELLO! It's nice to see you!

And now, it looks like my big swath of conventions is finally finished. And let me tell you, I'M EXHAUSTED.

What does this mean, though? This means, I'm now going through and refilling the etsy store this week, along with preparing for comicking, and general art-ing. I'm getting back into my groove of artwork, and revving up because I have SO MANY IDEAS and I want to get them all out there!

In other news, I *think* I'm in Youmacon's Artist Alley this year, in case anybody was wondering how that worked out. I was able to pay for my table, but I'm never sure if we get a secondary confirm. I will be working hard to make new things to have at the booth for you all! I'm aiming to be doing a lot more comic work to have available at the show.

Alrighty, I'm going to head out, and do some of those very things I mentioned!

This time I'll be joining forces with :iconrajamitsu: and we're sharing a table at INDY POP CON down in Indianapolis IN. It's going to take place at the HUGE GIGANTIC CONVENTION CENTER!! I'm kind of excited about that. :P I'll have prints, the current stack of comics, as well as offering commissions all weekend.

After that, I get a WELL-EARNED REST, and will get back to creating the stuff I need to be creating. :) I have comics and an artbook to work on!

Hey! I'm back from Anime St. Louis, and I must say I had a fabulous time. It was a great show and a super great attendee crowd! In other news the WCS team I'm on "Karmaluna" got 1st place at the ASTL Preliminaries which means we'll be competing at the finals at ACEN in May! (Don't worry, I'm still going to be vending during that time too!)

Next up on my list is Midwest Media Expo!

Come See Me at SHUTO CON!

Sun Mar 30, 2014, 7:50 AM
Welp, it's that time. That's right, this VERY WEEKEND is a lovely little convention called SHUTO CON! It's up in Lansing, MI in case you were wondering! (You can find their website at www.shutocon.com

I'll be there giving my two drawing panels like I did the previous year. :) So if you'd like to learn how to draw people (and hear me tell funny tales of my bad oooooold artwork), or if you'd like to learn about some comic layout things, you should TOTALLY STOP BY.

Just as an FYI, I will be in a costume most likely all weekend. They are currently listed as surprises because I am feeling sneaky and fun. :)

I will also be RIGHT NEXT TO my good pal :iconrajamitsu: of TINY T-REX studios (she'll be at table T, ironically.) There's a good chance hijinks may ensue, and to this I say BRING IT ON MY FRIEND.

I've also updated the convention schedule list here (I gotta go and do it for my other pages sometime soon too!), I've added MIDWEST MEDIA EXPO at the end of April. LIST KEEPS GETTING LOOOONGEEEERRR.

More conventions to add to the list!

Sun Jan 26, 2014, 12:41 PM
Hey guys! Just a quick update - added a new convention to my list of places I'll be vending (it's gonna be a busy summer so I have to get all my things ready NOW, it seems).

It's called Indy Pop Con, and it is located in downtown Indianapolis at their big convention center. It's advertising itself as a general "geek and popular entertainment" sort of show. I'm excited to be a part of their artist's area, and I'll be hanging out there with :iconrajamitsu: (we're sharin' a table.)

You can find them at: indypopcon.com/!

Oh! And I'll also be appearing at Anime Park, a local 1-day convention put on by my old high school. :)

2014 Updates!

Thu Jan 2, 2014, 7:44 AM
Just wanted to update the journal!

I got accepted into ACEN's artist alley, so that makes two conventions for sure I'll be attending!

I am working on some larger projects, so I'll be sort of quiet? I mean, I hope to post some of my progress pictures, and I'm aiming to have new comic pages up (FINALLY), it just means I won't respond to all questions quickly. I am attempting to try to focus my efforts, so pardon the dust!
